About Private D. Wears
Keeping our children safe is a balancing act. When do we hover and when do we give them wings to fly? When it comes to keeping our children safe from sexual abuse, the question is not easy to answer.
We believe sexual abuse could never happen to our child.
We trust our friends, we trust our family.
We think, “I don’t know anyone that would/could do that to my child”
But the truth is…
It does happen, far more than we want to believe. According to Darkeness2Light Organization.
- 1 in 10 children will experience some form of sexual abuse before the age of 18.
- 20% of victims are under age 8
- 90% of victims know their abuser
- 43% of victims under age 6 are abused by juveniles between the ages of 12-14! (that’s the hardest fact to swallow!)
- It happens in our neighborhoods, schools, locker rooms, churches and homes!
The good news is … 95 % of sexual abuse is preventable with education: www.childmolestationprevention.org
When we arm ourselves and our children with knowledge, confidence and awareness we can greatly reduce the risk of them becoming a victim.
Begin by enlisting your child(ren) in Private D. Wears’ Army of Safety Smart Kids (ASSK) and arm them with Private Duke and Daisy’s “Private Training” rules of LOVE, RESPECT, PROTECTION!
You do that by sharing Private D. Wears’ engaging read-along book After Potty Training Comes Private Training at bedtime, bath time and/or potty time and have fun practicing the “take-action poses” as often as possible.
Next, “pay it forward” by encouraging your child’s school or organization to sponsor one of our educational programs so every child can learn Private D. Wears’ “private training” rules of LOVE RESPECT and PROTECTION.
About the Author & Creator, Linda Fratantoni
As for my personal story … in 1995, after the birth of my first child, a successful career in corporate training with a rigorous travel schedule, and painful memories of inappropriate behavior from a relative, I chose to redirect my training talents to the area of child safety.
I’ve spent the last twenty years developing, marketing, and executing child safety programs throughout the greater Philadelphia area. The programs teach young children and their families how to prevent abduction and sexual abuse in a non-threating, memorable way. I’ve devotedly worked with over 25,000 children!
I was inspired to write After Potty Training Comes Private Training (APTCPT) in an effort to reach more children and their families and ultimately prevent more children from experiencing the trauma of sexual abuse. Written to be a modern day “nursery-safety rhyme,” APTCPT will help parents, (teachers and advocates too) start the conversation with children at the “potty training” age and just as we use encouragement when potty training and we can make “private training” fun and encouraging too. “Private training,” which is learning to respect and protect “private parts,” should be considered the next step in becoming a BIG boy or girl.
I currently live in West Chester, Pennsylvania, with my husband of thirty-six years, two beautiful daughters, and my cherished golden retriever, Lilly.
Thank you for your interest in Private D. Wears and our very important mission,
